China Made Me Do It
Since I’ve come to China, I’ve noticed that there are some habits and attitudes I have picked up. So I dedicate this page to identifying my new habits/attitudes, all thanks to China.
1. I’ve become a master at playing human frogger… cars, trucks, bikes, mopeds, buses… It’s jay walking to an extreme
2. I have a tendency to link arms with my friends when I walk… one, to help direct them when we’re dodging traffic… and two, if you don’t, you get split up while you are walking… there are a lot of people to contend with here in China
3. Instead of me being pushed on the bus when trying to get on, I’m the one pushing people on the bus…
4. I feel incomplete if I don’t have a bowl of rice with my meal
5. I scream across the restaurant in order to get service… especially if I run out of tea or rice
6. I am addicted to QQ (a Chinese social network)… I even have it on my cell phone and ipod
7. I now fluently speak Engrish… I forgot the word “bus” the other day while I was talking in English….
8. I kind of feel like a celebrity at times… People will come up to me and ask to take a picture with me just because I’m a foreigner… it’s cool and creepy all at the same time… Basically expect me to be on a million different blogs…
9. If I want a gourmet western meal, I go to Pizza hut… I mean, they have steak on the menu…
10. Eating animals with the head still attached no longer phases me.
11. A week without eating shao kao (barbeque) means the world is coming to an end.
12. If my friend doesn’t have a bike and we want to go somewhere, it’s not an issue. They can just ride side saddle on my bike… I even have a seat
13. I crave spicy food (this is more of a Chengdu thing)… Food just doesn’t taste as good without lots of lajiao
14. I can not eat Chinese food without chopsticks… it just feels wrong using a fork…
15. A gray day is a normal day (also more of a Chengdu thing)… Sunny days are rare and far more treasured
more to come…
